Objectification of Woman

The way that women are portrayed in advertisements and television shows is very degrading. Women have to live up to certain standards such as flat stomachs, big breasts and perfect skin. We are constantly being shown images of these fake people over the span of our lives and those images are becoming the norm of how woman feel they should act and look. It has caused an abundance of self esteem problems for many girls, especially teenagers who are trying so hard to fit into their peer groups and feel accepted.
The realization that not many girls ever see is that no one can ever be as perfect as those women in magazines and on bill boards. Media has created a damaging portrayal of woman images. This sets high standards for all the women out in the world as they try to live up to how they believe guys will take note of them. This initially creates a certain expectation from the men. Men see all these beautiful women in the media and expect their girls to look the exact same way, which is an impossible wish. Not only is it not possible to look the way media expects you to look, it’s also very unhealthy. Media has now created girls who are constantly missing meals because they need to lose some pounds, or becoming depressed because they feel like societies are against them. This is not how our world should make women or anymore feel. There is a bar set so high for the women population that very little will ever come close to reaching it. Women should feel confident in their own skin and they should not aim to please others in hopes to feel better about themselves. The only person you need to impress most in your life is yourself, and even though looking the way that women look in magazines does seem attractive, it is an imaginary goal that will not accomplish anything besides conforming to the media’s brain wash.
Women have become objectified. Media is using women merely as objects to sell products. A lot of the time women are being used in a sexual way; to sell a product based on male excitement. With this being said, women who witness this objectification will now feel like they are just used as a tool to sell product. They now feel that their bodies are the most important asset to them. This leads to crazy diets and plastic surgeries and in severe cases, woman will starve themselves to become the perfect image they see every day. These advertisements of the ideal woman have done nothing but harm women across the world. They may have been made to make them feel beautiful, but all they will ever be doing is setting a bar that will be forever out of anyone's grasp.
